About the Area

The Phillips area is your destination for a true Northwoods vacation! Located in north central Wisconsin midway between Hayward and Minocqua, Price County is home to a variety of natural resources. Our abundance of woods and waters provides endless outdoor recreational opportunities which is why we are well known to outdoor enthusiasts!

There is over a million acres of national, state, and county forests surrounding the area for public hunting, fishing and recreations. The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest covers more than 1.5 million acres of Wisconsin's Northwoods, covering about 858,400 acres in Ashland, Bayfield, Sawyer, Price, Taylor and Vilas counties. Our area holds some of the best public hunting lands in the state with over 300,000 acres of public forest lands. The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Flambeau River State Forest and Price County Forest together form a vast wilderness area that supports an excellent population of Northwoods wildlife.

In September, you'll even have the unique opportunity to fish for sturgeon. 18,000 acres of water, including 174 lakes, several trout streams, three major rivers including the Elk River, Flambeau Rivers and the Jump Rivers, provide the perfect setting for those that want a leisurely flat water paddle, get a line wet, or if your looking to step up their adventure, the rivers offer whitewater canoe and kayak opportunites. Needelss to say, there are plenty of opportunities to explore the waterways.

Over 550 miles of perfectly groomed snowmobile trails which are well known as some of the most scenic and best maintained trails in Wisconsin. Opportunities include trails through Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, the Tuscobia State Trail from Park Falls to Rice Lake, the Pine Line Rail Trail from Prentice to Medford, including a side trip to the highest geographical point in Wisconsin – Timm's Hill, and numerous connecting trails. Quality food, lodging and services are trailside making Price County the perfect snowmobile destination!

Our Phillips Area Chamber Members offer a full range of recreational activities including ATV, kayak, canoe and paddle board rentals, golf, indoor community swimming pool, excellent camping facilities, breathtaking snowmobile, cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails, mountain bike and ATV trails, and scenic walking and hiking trails.

The Phillips area provides a wonderful array of accommodations including motel rooms, vacation homes and cabin rentals, lakeside resorts and lodges; most are situated on a lakefront and offer swimming areas for children. The small towns of Price County offer visitors a variety of lodging, dining, shopping and service services. Each community has its own special character and places to explore.
